Expert Advice — Worth Every Penny

Today I want to share a little story about one of my latest adventures and a life lesson I’ve learned along the way.

I recently traded in my old 2006 Yamaha Stratoliner for a Honda Transalp.

The Stratoliner was great for going long and straight, mostly cruising around on highways.

But it was too much to wrestle with an 800-plus pound bike trying to get around town.

Plus, I was starting to want something a bit more suited to the rugged trails around my mountain cabin in Colorado.

The Honda Transalp is a beast! Take a look:

The new bike is as nimble as a mountain goat and easy to ride.

It’s perfect for navigating the woods and exploring those out-of-the-way places.

I’ve been having a blast riding around, feeling the crisp mountain air, and soaking in the beautiful scenery. There’s nothing quite like it.

But here’s the thing — whenever I come up to a log on the trail, it’s always been a sticking point for me.

Up till now, I’ve had to get off the bike and awkwardly walk it over the log or find a way around.

It’s not exactly the smoothest process.

Then, I saw these people doing this cool trick where they’d ride right over the log without even taking a pause! I knew I had to learn how to do that!

Here’s what the trick looks like when done by a professional.

But listen, at my age, I can’t afford too many falls. So, I decided to find an expert to teach me how to do it safely.

See, paying experts is the biggest freedom in the world.

Yes, you can gather little bits of info from here and there… watch free videos and try to figure it out yourself, but your time is worth something.

And every day, I realize I have less and less time. That’s why I’m out there living.

Riding my motorcycle. Fishing with my grandkids. Taking the entire summer to escape the Florida heat and humidity in the mountains of Colorado.

So, right now I’m in the process of looking for an instructor. Someone that can show me how to do that log hopping trick — and lots of other stuff, too.

As I was saying, sure, I could watch some YouTube videos and try to figure out how to do it on my own.

But how long would it take me to figure it out on my own?

And what kind of damage would I be doing — to the bike and to myself — by trying to piecemeal it?

Meanwhile, in just an afternoon — just by paying an expert — I could learn how to do it without risking injury.

This got me thinking about how this applies to trading.

A lot of new traders try to gather free advice from lots of different sources.

They think they’re gaming the system, saving money.

But in reality, they’re slowing their growth and might even frustrate themselves to the point of quitting trading altogether.

That’s the biggest tragedy, in my opinion. Because as a successful trader of nearly 40 years, I know that trading works.

Learning from professionals accelerates your progress and ensures a certain degree of safety.

You don’t have to piece things together on your own and risk costly mistakes.

Just like learning the log hop, paying for expert advice in trading can save you time, money, and a lot of headaches.

So, whether it’s mastering a new motorcycle trick or becoming a successful trader, remember to value your time and invest in learning from the best.

Trade well,

Jack Carter
