As I sit here with my coffee this morning, reflecting on the year we’ve had, I can’t help but think about the similarities between life and trading.
We’re always looking for the next big move, the perfect setup, or the ultimate trade that’ll change everything.
And while there’s nothing wrong with ambition, sometimes we miss the bigger picture — the gifts that are already right in front of us.
For me, the biggest “gift” has been the simple things: the summer days I spent riding my bike through the Colorado backcountry, the time spent with my grandkids, or the joy of teaching you fine folks the hard-earned lessons I’ve learned over the years.
It’s easy to get caught up in the charts, the tickers, and the constant chase for more. But today, I want to encourage you to pause and take stock of the gifts you already have.
The Lessons Trading Teaches Us
Trading has taught me a lot over the years — patience, discipline, how to handle the unexpected… most importantly, how to rely on myself.
But perhaps the most important lesson is gratitude. Every time we hit “confirm and send,” we’re reminded that this game isn’t just about winning or losing. It’s about learning, adapting, and showing up for the next opportunity.
And isn’t that what life’s about too?
The Gift of Focus
This year, I challenged you to focus on the straightforward strategies I teach… I challenged you to simplify your trading, and to always think about stacking the odds in your favor.
That same philosophy applies to everything. Simplify, focus, and cut out the noise.
That’s the gift I hope you give yourself today — the clarity to see what truly matters and the discipline to prioritize it.
What Matters Most
So as you celebrate today — whether you’re surrounded by family or enjoying some quiet time — remember this: The best gifts aren’t under the tree.
They’re in the moments we share with family and friends… the lessons we’ve learned… and the opportunities ahead.
